Each fall you may notice Stink Bugs and Boxelders all over the outside side of your home. This is because they are sun bathing on your siding to stay warm. Then as the temperature drops in the evening, they will find ways into the walls of your home! Typically, the cycle will repeat every day until we receive near or below freezing temperatures. Instead of returning outside, they are taking refuge in the outside walls of your home and will constantly be trickling into your living space throughout winter.
The good news is we can prevent them from over wintering in your home. What we do is strategically treat the outside surface of your home, bushes, or trees, so that when they sun bath on the siding they will be eliminated before they take refuge in the walls. Even though the numbers of these pests that sun bath each day outside during fall will not completely stop, they will not be living in your walls and end up inside your living space.
Stink Bugs
Stink Bugs (brown marmorated stink bug) are an invasive insect to our area and were accidentally introduced into the United States from China or Japan. They have been increasingly been getting worse in our area since around 2016.
Boxelder
Boxelder bugs feed and lay eggs during the warmer months, often becoming nuisances in the fall as they search for overwintering sites. They are most frequently seen congregating in warm spots before migrating indoors to overwinter in insulated walls.
